For those who did not notice the new “blue-names’, the new advisors for 2009 were announced in a forum post by Corelli just before the new year.

In my last real post I talked about the announcement of the new advisor positions, my hopes for Kaneva to make a good choice, and the show that a lot of people hoping to get the position were putting on.

I think that Kaneva followed through with making good choices, those choices being –

NyMinute, Elise34, ElectroCuteEric, schattentanz, MrsCaptainHarley, IBO_1, Ryan_A, dazzlee, and Mr___.

I personally know (or at least know of) a decent amount of people on this list.  Not to say that that matters or anything (did I just say that twice?).  In-fact in some cases it could be a good thing that I don’t recognize the name as recognition could come from positive or negative experiences.

One thing I have noticed about this list – Not once did I see any of these people reciting the Kaneva rules to those getting out of line… they let the current advisors perform their duty.  I did see, however, most of these people offering help to those who requested it…. hmmmm…. seems to fall a bit in line with the advice I gave (not to say that I’m always right or anything).

Before I continue – I can’t forget to mention two veteran advisors who have now been made Senior Advisors:

Neotanium and Summer_small

I would like to conclude this post by congratulating all of the new advisors.  May you have the heart of a teacher and the patience of *insert something that has a lot of patience here* – you will need it.

Jeeze – for a welcome back post you think this would be longer, what can I say… I’m a lazy writer… still planning many more posts, contests, and other good things for the blog in 2009!

Full Disclosure

As a follow up to my posts about Why You Might Want to Join a Group in Kaneva and Why You Might Not Want to Join a Group in Kaneva, I think it is only fair that I give full disclosure as to my affiliations in Kaneva.

After weighing the options between whether to join and what group to join, I did decide to become a member of the Kaneva Mafia.  The main reasons behind this is because I have been friends with many of the mafia members (some for almost 2 years).  I share similar interests with many of them and a good portion of them subscribe to my brand of humor.

Does this make me any less of an individual?  I don’t think so.  I mean, no one tells me what to wear, who to talk to, where to go, who to be friends with…. I’m an adult so being told what to do wouldn’t sit to well with me.

Even though I am a member of the Mafia, my opinions will still remain my own…. and stay unbiased.  Infact, I would like to challenge my readers.  If you think I am putting some sort of spin on whatever I am writing about, based on my affiliations – PLEASE TELL ME…. I encourage an open dialogue on this site!.

And just like the disclaimer on my FAQ page regarding Kaneva –

Any views stated on this site are that of my own and not of The Kaneva Mafia, its members, leadership, or associates.

So, consider yourself fully disclosed – I can only speak what I believe to be the truth and would not want anyone mislead by what I have to say.

To Join or Not to Join…. that tis the question

Posted on September 8, 2008. Filed under: Relationships | Tags: , , , |

Last week I wrote about some reasons why you may want to join a group in Kaneva. In that post I was not trying to discourage anyone from being an individual – being an individual is what makes for interesting people.  So as a follow-up post, I’ve decided to write about some reasons why you may NOT want to join a group on Kaneva.

1.  Perceptions are everything

For some reason when you have that yellow tag under your name some people may think of you differently just because of some actions of someone else who shared that same tag with you.  This is unfortunate, but it happens.

2.  Not enough time

Sometimes there just isn’t enough time to commit to a group of people that are very active in world.  You don’t want to feel like the anchor to their boat, so sometimes it’s best just not to join a group.

3.  Conflicting beliefs

Most groups in world are founded upon a set of beliefs.  Those beliefs may have to do with religion, politics, community, or a number of things.  And sometimes your beliefs just don’t mesh with theirs – it happens in RL, it can happen here too.

4. Loss of individuality

Some people feel that when joining a group they have to give up their individuality.  Although, I don’t feel the same way, I can understand the sentiment.  Sometimes belonging to something BIG can make you feel small.

5. Save the drama for your mama

With pretty much any group you are going to run into drama.  If you’re like me, you prefer to avoid drama which may make you think twice before changing your clan tag.  This isn’t to say that groups have drama all the time, but drama will exist no matter where you go.

If you are still on the fence and think you may want to join a group, I recommend you re-read this post after going back and reading the post about why you may want to join a group…. And if you’re still unsure, well then maybe you should talk to your Kaneva therapist (I think I just created a new in world job!).
